Catch The Lizards (Lizard Hunt)
Ideas 1 - 3 below are the creation of Gurvinder Singh, Innisfail State High School, Queensland.
Idea 4 was added by Paige Bousen, Bentley Park College, Cairns, Queensland.
- Draw a straight line on the diagram which catches the maximum number of lizards.
- (a) Work out two straight lines you could draw on the diagram such that you catch the maximum number of lizards.
(b) Do the same procedure as in (a) but this time each lizard you catch can only have one line through it.
(c) Repeat (b) with the further restriction that your lines must start and finish on a number.
- Your task is to work out the minimum number of straight lines you would draw to catch all the lizards. Remember your lines must start and finish on a number and also each lizard can only have one line through it.
- Draw a square to catch the most lizards. (This could be done with other shapes too.)
