Task Cameos (in the Iceberg Information link on the left) provide excellent support information about using tasks in all their lives.
- They illustrate what a pair of students can do with a task when working as independent mathematicians.
- They list questions which extend the investigation of the task - questions which could also be the basis of a written Investigation Guide.
- They make suggestions for converting the task to a whole class lesson through which the teacher can model working like a mathematician.
Printing these cameos (they are mostly only 1 or 2 pages) and keeping them in numbered collections will encourage and support your teachers and students to make better use of your task set. A Cover Page (PDF file) has been added to the Task Cameos section to help you organise these prints. Add to your Cameo Collection each month.
Note: Printing in colour from a laser printer will produce an even more impressive document.
Pack The Box comes with instructions for making the box. It is held together with masking tape, and, unless you particularly want students to have the experience of working from the simple plans supplied, it only need be made once. The puzzle is then a challenging 3D experience with a strong logical base and connections to the location of points in three dimensional space. Tactical is a game which continues the emphasis on logic and offers many opportunities to explore What happens if...? situations.

Recently the Maths on the Move program Assessment, Recording & Reporting in Mathematics was presented in three cities of the Loddon-Mallee region of Victoria. This partnership was formed through the initiative of Neville Davies (Loddon Mallee Project Officer: Science, Maths & Technology) and Di Davies (Innovations & Excellence Educator, Swan Hill Cluster). MOTM provided a practical focus for discussion and development which supported these regional officers in helping their teachers address new government policy documents.
These active and engaging workshops sessions were very well received, as shown in photos below from the Swan Hill day.

of the day is devoted to at least an hour of planning to prepare a unit of work
with a parallel assessment strategy.
