- ...Tradition Continues
Ina will continue as Distribution Manager and Doug. Williams will continue with professional development and web support. We will let you know more early in 2014, but right now it's summer and we're having a holiday. Best wishes for yours as well.
- Tasks of the Month
Two new cameos this month.
The Task Cameo Content Finder has been updated to include these tasks.
- Arithmagons 1 is a well known number puzzle format with a strong emphasis on questioning, reasoning, justifying and communicating mathematics. In this context it encourages mental arithmetic and leads into generalisation, the concept of proof, and flow charts. The cameo includes the contribution last month from Matt Skoss's Year 7 class who developed 'their own way' of solving these puzzles.
- Arithmagons 2 is a partner to Arithmagons 1 which develops by asking What happens if we change the starting shape?. As with its partner this task also encourages mental arithmetic and offers similar, but in some ways more refined reasoning challenges. Both tasks are linked to the Calculating Changes threaded activity Number Shapes which explores number bonds by putting numbers at the corners of shapes.

Keep smiling,
Doug.
